Research Institutions

The partnership joining Cloema with astrophysical and radio astronomic research institutions has deep roots, connected to the tradition of Florence mechanic industry and to important people who pioneered in new, more and more extreme challenges in the mechanic field, achieving better and better results.

Thanks to this deep-rooted experience and Cloema’s ability to keep pace with new technologies both as for testing and production, our company managed to go beyond Florence’s industry borders and conquer new markets.

We collaborate with many INAF research centers such as the ones of Florence (Arcetri), Bologna (Medicina), Sardegna Cagliari, Sicilia Noto, and many university departments of engineering, physics and optics.

Our products range from little prototypes for preliminary studies and fine tuning, to definitive items ready for installation; we also produce waveguides using electrical discharge machining, transitions, transducers, feed, dewars and much more.

The accuracy of our products and the precision of measurements play in this field a much more important role than in other fields for the final functioning of machines. Our Know how is a guarantee of proper functioning, reliability and repeatability and it always satisfy the customer’s needs.

Prototyping

Thanks to Cloema’s collaboration with the department of Mechanical Engineering of the Florence University we have been carrying out over the years many experiments and prototyping especially in the railway sector, achieving the production of unique and highly technological equipment. For instance, instrumental hooks used to study the forces between the locomotive and wagon and new design safety carriage clamps.

4

Special Manufacturing

Thanks to our expertise and technology, we produce lapping plates, lapping underplates, lapping rings, reconditioning cast iron rings. Our production ranges from single items to large series, from small to 1500 mm diameters.

5

Quality control/testing

Quality control plays a primary role in our company: that is why Cloema constantly invests both in the staff training and in the enhancement of technology.
Cloema has a totally equipped and computerized laboratory for the constant and continuous quality control of products and production.
Thanks to a very strict policy in the handling of measuring instruments, to temperature control, to Hexagon three dimensional measurement machines and to the complete and high quality supply of measuring instruments, our metrological room allows us to supply many certificates, such as reports done using three dimensional measuring machines, roughness certificates, not destructive controls certifications (including the VT visual method). Moreover, thanks to collaboration with external partners, we can supply certificates for Penetrant Test PT, Magnetic particles Test, Radiographic Test, Ultrasound Test, Eddy Current Test ET.

Arts and Culture

Cloema stands out in the artistic-cultural field too as a benchmark for the production of special and unique equipment, such as the reproduction of ancient machines used to study kinematics for the Galileo Museum, the production on behalf of the Florence Opera del Duomo of some didactical telescopes located on the northern terrace of Palazzo Vecchio and the designing/production of a complex and impressive handling machine used by Florence Opificio delle Pietre Dure during the restoration of the Baptistery’s doors. Cloema took part in this long work with competence and the outmost technology that after many centuries restored the original splendor of a unique world heritage masterpiece.
